Chromium-nickel steel is largely rustproof and resistant to the acids commonly found in the household.
Although simple chrome steel is suitable for machine washing, aggressive detergents and electrochemical processes can lead to corrosion.
Problems of a special kind can arise with old silver cutlery in connection with high temperatures in the dishwasher. In principle, however, real silver and silver-plated cutlery can be cleaned in the dishwasher. However, slight scratches may form on the soft surface. You should also ensure that the detergent used for this cutlery does not contain citric acid.
The cutlery should be rinsed briefly before the dishwasher cycle so that the salt and acidic food residues cannot take effect. Never put chrome nickel steel and chrome steel cutlery in the cutlery basket together, as there is a risk of rust transfer. After washing, open the dishwasher immediately and dry with a tea towel. Wipe knife blades dry to prevent limescale deposits.
