Made in Solingen

Unlike many other manufacturers, Wüsthof has not succumbed to the temptation to produce in Asia or South America in its more than 200-year history. And there is a simple reason for this: they value the heritage and identity of Solingen, the city of blades. They believe that quality knives can only be created where high-precision production processes meet traditional craftsmanship. Their trident factory is one such place.

Development

During the design development process, the superfluous was reduced and the necessary optimized. "The guiding principle of the universal is to combine the agility of Japanese design with the characteristics of German robustness and safety. That was the aim," says Bjoern Berger, product designer and developer of the Epicure series.

40 work steps

In forty work steps, a piece of Wüsthof steel, a special mixture of chrome, vanadium, molybdenum and stainless steel, is turned into a quality knife. State-of-the-art robotics and lasers are used when it comes to very heavy work or work that is precise to the nanometer. On the other hand, around 400 employees can be relied on when manual work, a good eye, intuition and experience are required.
