The origins

Luigi Bormioli Italy looks back on a centuries-old tradition of Italian glassmaking. Even during the Renaissance, the Bormioli family was one of the most renowned glassmakers around Genoa. Luigi Bormioli, to whom the now world-famous brand owes its name, moved to Parma at the beginning of the 19th century, where he also implemented the craft of glassmaking. In the 20th century, another Luigi Bormioli renewed the family tradition: after the Second World War, he founded a new glass manufactory and began to open up the market for industrially produced glass in the elegant segment.

With over 1,000 employees and five furnaces, Luigi Bormioli Italy produces at two sites in Parma and Abbiategrasso. Luigi Bormioli Italy's glass production is also committed to sustainable development and aims to minimize its impact on the environment. The decision to use electric furnaces to melt the glass has significantly reduced CO2 emissions in recent decades. 100% of the broken and scrap glass is recycled in the production process, significantly minimizing the consumption of raw materials and energy.

    This glass, specially developed by Luigi Bormioli, is highly transparent and contains no heavy metals. It is extremely resistant and, compared to conventional glass products, has increased light transmission, a more resistant glass edge and greater stability against stem distortion when drying. Sound amplification ensures a special sound experience when clinking glasses. 
  • The ultra-clear and durable sparkx glass
    A special feature of these Luigi Bormioli glasses is their high color transmission, thanks to which the color of the poured beverage can be seen almost unaltered. The glass is ultra-transparent in accordance with ISO IWA 8 2009. sparkx glass also has increased stability against mechanical shocks. 
  • Glass handles reinforced with nanotechnology
    A weak point of conventional glasses is usually the stem, which breaks easily in the dishwasher and when drying. Luigi Bormioli glasses have a titanium-reinforced stem.

The glasses can easily withstand cleaning in the dishwasher. They can withstand between 2000 and 4000 wash cycles without changing their shine or transparency. Every glass is Made in Italy. Production takes place at two sites in Parma and Abbiategrasso near Milan.
