History

"Minoyaki", a type of Japanese pottery, has its origins in Gifu Prefecture on the central island of Honshu, Japan. Clay - the raw material for pottery - is abundant in the region and is the basis of a centuries-old tradition. This region still produces ceramics by local artisans whose experience and skill pay homage to their predecessors, while a contemporary approach to design takes this art form to a new level.

Procurement

The MIJ ceramic ranges come from small, family-run kilns in Gifu, the lacquerware from Wakayama and the rest of the product range from all over Japan. Made in Japan is proud to have been in contact with many of these companies for so long that they are now dealing with the sons of the fathers they have come to know.

Goal

Made in Japan strives to source timeless pieces and work with manufacturers to develop new colors and styles to complement, not replace, existing collections. The new shapes, colors and patterns they add to the existing range are selected with longevity and functionality in mind.
